They just opened one up in Hayes Valley.

So I went there and I had their chicago style pizza. I'm not sure really how it should taste but I felt like it was missing something.

Is it suppose to have chunks of tomatoes in the traditional style pizza? Ah, I wished I remembered what it tasted like in chitown when I was there.

What are your thoughts?

What did you get in/on it?

From the website it looks like a deep dish or stuffed pizza, tough call.

True deep dish (Chicago style) pizza will haver diced or peeled tomato pieces in it. Ike Sewell, founder of Uno's Pizza here in Chicago elevated pizza to the status of a meal that you can eat with a fork.
If you are talking wedge-like chunks as you'd find in a garden salad, I say no.

We got black olives, sausage and mushrooms and it came with just tomato sauce & cheese. It was served elevated. I thought the bread was a bit hard to cut into that I wround up not eating the bread half way into the slice.

I wonder if that tomato style (diced or peeled) is specific that I have to order it that way. Hmmm....

Patxi's recipe is pretty close to Zachary's. Apparently the proprietors actually went back and 'interned' at a few of the most famous pie joints the Windy City... however, they're using vegan butter instead of lard to line the pan [the traditional way], which is a big plus for us vegetarians.

One almost feels sorry for Zachary's since you know that it's gonna cut into their revenue, until you consider that-

        A) they've likely had the capital to expand into the city for some time now, so fuck 'em and their East Bay elitism; and

        B) they actually take plastic money, something which always boggled the mind about Zachary's and their profitability. You'd think the Rockridge location had some secret deal w/ the BoFA ATM pimps next door at Albertson's...

Conclusion? This place has my endorsement. It's lacking the ambience of Little Star (although they've become the loudest restaurant in SF!), but the servers are cool, they serve Hoegaarten draft, I have yet to hear any Kenny G on their stereo... and oh yeah - the pizza's good!
